The Mubako segmental aphabet is made up of 27 letters in which there are 18 consonants and 9 vowels. They are represented below in upper and lower cases except for the glottal stop, which is only in the lower case for it never occurs at the beginning of words in ‘‘Məbààkɔ̀’’. There are 20 of the letters of the Mubako alphabet which are already known in English and other languages.
There are some ‘‘Məbààkɔ̀’’ sounds that are represented by letters that are not familiar in English. The familiar and the unfamiliar sounds will form the core of the practical exercises in this book. The glottal stop is the smallest letter in the alphabet. It is represented by the apostrophe (ʼ). It is treated as a consonant and is pronounced at the back of the throat
Many people already speak the Mubako language, but just few can read or write it. Our literacy classes and training sessions focus on helping youthful and Adult learners gain confidence in writing and reading Mubako, so the language can be preserved and passed on with strength
